Rust Protection Frequently Asked Questions
What is Krown Rust Proctection?
Krown is designed to stop or slow down corrosive damage to vehicles. It is a petroleum-based product with rust inhibitors that contains no solvents, no toxins, is non-reactive, non-flammable, and non-corrosive. It is environmentally safe and can be sprayed in any weather condition.
How does Krown Rust Protection work?
Krown was developed in Canada in the 80’s to combat the under body damage to vehicles that occurs during harsh winter conditions. This environmentally safe spray is applied by a Krown technician. To prevent rust and corrosion, the spray is thin enough to get into seams and spot welds. It is self-healing and continues to creep to offer protection in these areas of your vehicle.
Where do you spray the rust protection?
Anywhere there is the chance for rust – doors, rocker panels, inside wheel wells, tailgate, inside hood and trunk lid, bumpers, under body panels.
How is Krown different from a hard undercoating?
Undercoating is sprayed underneath a vehicle and creates a protective barrier that protects from rust on the exposed surfaces. Because of its thickness, it is not able to penetrate into seams and other small spots. It also is able to crack or chip, where moisture can then get in, underneath the coating. Then the moisture is trapped and spreads underneath the coating.
Krown is different because its formula is specifically designed to creep into and coat even the smallest and hardest to reach places under your vehicle. It won’t crack or chip because it creates a thin oily barrier to disperse moisture and chemicals so you never have to worry about moisture getting trapped underneath the protective layer.
Will it damage my paint job?
Because Krown doesn’t have any solvents it won’t damage your paint job in any way.
Can Krown be applied to a hybrid or electric vehicle?
Many hybrid vehicles come with directions to not apply an undercoating. The hard undercoating blocks sensors and causes issues in electrical systems. However, Krown can safely be sprayed on hybrid vehicles because it is an oily coating that repels moisture while not blocking or damaging electrical systems.
Can Krown be sprayed on electrical connections?
Yes. Krown is non-conductive and water dispersing, protecting the connections from oxidation or corrosion.
Can Krown be applied to an older vehicle?
It is often advised that older vehicles should not apply a hard undercoating because it will trap and grow any rust or corrosion that is already present. Krown is different. Krown does not trap moisture – it repels moisture from forming and even pulls it out of spots that have already started to corrode. So Krown is a great way to slow down corrosive elements on an older vehicle.
If my car already has rust, how does Krown work?
Krown penetrates into the rust and begins to control it. Every year with a new application, the rust is better controlled. In many cases it softens the rust and then the rust wears or flakes away little by little. We’ve personally seen this happen over the years.

When is the best time to get a Krown application?
If you’ve never had your car protected, then right now is the best time to get an application. Most people think of winter when it comes to rust and corrosion protection, but every season of the year has its own damage it can inflict upon a car. No matter when you have Krown applied, the application lasts for 12 months.
How often do I need to respray?
Once a year. The highly exposed areas wear down over the course of the year. Dust, dirt, stones, gravel, are thrown against the bottom panels or absorbed in some cases. Since rust is often the first point looked at in the resale of a vehicle and the most obvious, applying Krown each year will ensure you have optimal performance from the application.
How long does a Krown application take?
We schedule 1 hour per vehicle though it can sometimes take less depending on the vehicle.
Can I watch while you spray?
Definitely and most people do.
Where do I wait?
We have a comfortable waiting room next to the spray booth with Wi-Fi or of course, you can watch from there while I spray.
What happens after my car or truck is sprayed?
After you’re vehicle is sprayed you can immediately drive in rain or salty snowy roads with confidence that your vehicle is already protected. You can wash it normally in a car wash or at home. You are able to do this is because the Krown rust inhibitor disperses water.
Does washing my vehicle “wash off” the Krown protection?
No. After your vehicle is sprayed your vehicle is washed to remove any stray spray from the paint or windows. Krown Protection cannot be removed from metal with soap and water.
